Questions and answers

The things people actually ring us about, answered here so you do not have to.

Buying

What is the difference between Smart Sale Plus, PopUpPOS and a licence by business type?

They are three ways of buying a till from the same company.

Smart Sale Plus runs in your browser on any phone, tablet or PC, and you subscribe by the month - TT$125 after a 7-day free trial - with nothing to install and nothing to buy up front. You set it up yourself in minutes.

PopUpPOS (and the generic SmartSale POS options sold alongside it) is software you buy once and own, for an Android device or a Windows PC you already have. It works completely offline, sends receipts by WhatsApp, and includes a van sales module. You install it yourself with our help, and maintenance and support renews yearly at TT$450.

A licence by business type is the SmartSale software configured for how your kind of business sells - a bar, a pharmacy, a supermarket - bought once at one price per business type. We install it and train your staff, and three months of support are included.

If you are not sure, tell us about the business and we will say which one fits.

Is the price a subscription, or a one-off cost?

It depends which you pick, and every product's page says plainly which it is. Smart Sale Plus is a monthly subscription - TT$125 a month after a 7-day free trial, cancel any time, nothing to buy. PopUpPOS and SmartSale POS are bought once and are yours, with maintenance and support renewing yearly at TT$450. A licence by business type is bought once too, and its price includes installation, training and three months of support, with no yearly renewal to take unless you want ongoing support afterwards.

Why does the price differ by business type?

A supermarket till and a nail salon till are not doing the same job. On a licence by business type, the price reflects how much of the software is actually configured for your kind of business, plus the installation and training that come with it - not an arbitrary category label. PopUpPOS and SmartSale POS are priced by platform and licence size instead, because you set those up yourself.

What does the yearly maintenance and support on PopUpPOS cover?

Software updates and new features, e-mail support, phone support, remote support, and refresher training - TT$450 a year on any PopUpPOS or SmartSale POS option. Cloud access and real-time backup is a separate optional add-on at TT$750 a year.

What do the free three months of support cover?

Questions about using the software, fixing a setting, or a problem that turns out to be ours to fix. After three months, support continues - ask us about the arrangement that suits how much you expect to need.

Do the prices include VAT?

Prices shown are in Trinidad and Tobago dollars and exclude VAT. Ask for a quotation and the VAT-inclusive figure will be in writing.

Hardware

Do I need to buy hardware, or can I just run the app on my phone?

You can run it on a phone or tablet you already own with no extra hardware at all - just add a Bluetooth printer if you want paper receipts. A physical counter terminal (mini PC, touchscreen, cash drawer) is there for businesses that want one, not a requirement.

What does the complete terminal bundle include?

A mini PC, a touchscreen display in the size you choose, a cash drawer with its controller, and a receipt printer, set up and tested together before you take it. A barcode scanner can be added to any configuration.

Running it

Does it work without internet?

PopUpPOS and SmartSale POS do - completely. They run on the device itself, so you can take sales, print receipts and manage your catalogue with no Wi-Fi or data at all, which is what makes them right for food carts, outdoor events and remote routes. Smart Sale Plus runs in the browser and needs a connection while you are selling. A licence by business type runs on your own equipment at your premises.

Can I send a receipt by WhatsApp?

Yes, on PopUpPOS and SmartSale POS: after a sale, one tap sends a fully itemised receipt - products, quantities, prices, total and your business name - straight to the customer's WhatsApp. It doubles as proof of delivery. You can print on a Bluetooth or USB printer instead, or do both.

What is the van sales module?

Part of PopUpPOS, for distribution companies and route salesmen. Load the van, open the app on an Android phone or tablet, and at each stop select the items, record deliveries or pickups, and print the receipt on a 58mm Bluetooth printer or send it by WhatsApp - no internet needed. Every sale is logged, each driver has a separate account, and the end-of-day report shows every stop, total sales, items delivered and cash collected.

Can staff at more than one register use the same licence?

On a licence by business type, one licence covers one register and each additional register is a flat one-off TT$2,500, whatever the business type. SmartSale POS + Inventory is licensed for unlimited users and workstations - the first workstation is included and each additional one is the same TT$2,500. PopUpPOS and the single-user SmartSale POS cover one workstation. Smart Sale Plus has unlimited staff users on the one subscription.

Where do I sign in to Smart Sale Plus?

At smartsaleplus.com. Type your business code - it is on your welcome sheet, and the sign-in page remembers it on your device - then your user name and password. New businesses start their 7-day free trial from the same page. Forgotten password? Your administrator resets it from inside the app.

Can I get reports across more than one location?

Tell us how many sites and how you want them combined when you enquire - most businesses running several locations want one set of figures across all of them, and that is something we set up as part of the install.

Support

What happens if the software has a problem after the free support period?

Call us. We will tell you plainly whether it is covered or whether it is a paid call-out, before any work starts - never after.

Do you install it, or do I have to do that myself?

We install it. Setup, installation and training are all included in the licence price, whichever business type you are.
